New Malden's LOCAL website - Latest Forum Posts http://ourkt3.com/forum en-us Window cleaner wanted - Brave New Malden
Hi! Does anyone have the number of a local window cleaner? The one who does my street - Groves area - claims to be too busy to take on any new business. If so, where are the enterprising Poles when you need them?

Yours, peering through grimy windows,
Brave New Malden
Wed, 19 Nov 2008 03:46:51 -0600 http://ourkt3.com/forum/message/3701 /forum/message/3701 RE: Shannon Corner B&Q - Miranda Fagandini
Unfortunately we can see this monstrosity from our house, both up and downstairs, and how it must be for the poor residents of Rookwood Avenue, I hate to think! Must be like having the Berlin Wall up against your back garden fence! We are just hoping that they will not be allowed to paint it in their company colours - bright orange. Because that area comes under Merton, rather than Kingston, we had no idea what was going in there until they started building. (And don't say we should have read the local free newspapers - we have only just started getting them again after a gap of about a year). I know I sound like a real Nimby (Not in my back yard) but I really cannot see why they need to build such a huge store in a suburban area like ours.
Tue, 18 Nov 2008 11:16:41 -0600 http://ourkt3.com/forum/message/3685 /forum/message/3685 RE: Complete rubbish - Richard Gerrard
Our first collection in my part of New Malden is tomorrow so it will be interesting seeing how it goes. I don't think the food bin was designed with the idea that my grandson would want to recycle his haloween pumpkin in it, I had a hell of a job getting it tied up tonight.
Wed, 12 Nov 2008 15:41:39 -0600 http://ourkt3.com/forum/message/3574 /forum/message/3574 RE: Complete rubbish - Brave New Malden
Ha! Within minutes of posting this question I had cause to ring the Council, as the recycling men had studiously ignored my brown food box. The bag was tied up, the box was easily accessible...I'd observed all the rules. The guy at the council suggested that they might have left it 'because they were in a rush'. Brilliant.
Wed, 12 Nov 2008 03:58:34 -0600 http://ourkt3.com/forum/message/3553 /forum/message/3553 Complete rubbish - Brave New Malden
What do you think of the new household waste collection service? Do you think it's working out satisfactorily or do you think it's, well, rubbish?

I'm quite happy with it so far. We are recycling more than we were able to before and I'm possibly taking fewer trips to the dump, or whatever it calls itself these days. On the negative side, I'm not sure the food recycling boxes will last very long, the way the binmen hurl them around. Come on boys, you're not bowling for England. Also, I envisage a steep increase in pungent aromas in the KT3 area next summer - but perhaps an enterprising outdoor scent manufacturer will come up with something to counter that.

Anyway, what are your thoughts?
Wed, 12 Nov 2008 02:49:33 -0600 http://ourkt3.com/forum/message/3552 /forum/message/3552 RE: Rose Theatre - Old Malden
Looks like the Village Voice beat the local press , see Comet 12/11/08 re Rose Theatre funding
Tue, 11 Nov 2008 13:51:57 -0600 http://ourkt3.com/forum/message/3545 /forum/message/3545 RE: Rose Theatre - Old Malden
In this country we have a right to choose, or al least be asked, and if not at least consulted, what we do not want is to be lied to.
The Rose have cost each household in Kingston upon Thames £180, that includes pensioners (some of which cannot afford heating bills) we had no choice but to pay, at the same time Day Centres were closed and care criteria down graded, next on the list will be The crescent Resource Centres that will be pushed into smaller premises. It is also on the cards that wayside Gardens will have their plants removed and be grassed over to save money.
When the Leader of the council said that the council would not pay one penny to the Theatre he made a misleading statement, I also have great concerns that more money will shortly be found from the council coffers to give by some guise to the Rose, I would also point out the we in Tolworth New Malden Chessington Surbiton will in the main be the losers whilst Kingston Town Centre will and their small businesses will gain. I am not against the Theatre, but I am against putting £11 million pounds of council tax into it without asking us.
Sun, 09 Nov 2008 01:42:37 -0600 http://ourkt3.com/forum/message/3527 /forum/message/3527 RE: L'auberge / Glasshouse Pub - Brave New Malden
Good on you for engaging with the forum, Peter. I really like the Glasshouse, and now I've discovered it offers free wi-fi I'll be there more than is good for my liver or my bank balance.

In fact I'm meeting up with some friends there about an hour from now...
Fri, 07 Nov 2008 12:42:43 -0600 http://ourkt3.com/forum/message/3520 /forum/message/3520 RE: L'auberge / Glasshouse Pub - Peter Linacre
Hi - this is Peter Linacre again. I am delighted that we gave a lot of people quite a lot of fun with our New World vs Old World wine dinner. We have more events coming up of this ilk. Our inaugural Quiz dinner was very well attended last Sunday and we have a an updated slant on the old Beaujolais Nouveau trick. Come by ealry in the morning and start the day just right.

We are developing our vegetarian options - and will shortly have improved the 'back door' problem.

We want to make evryone welcome - including vegetarians!

Tue, 04 Nov 2008 09:15:01 -0600 http://ourkt3.com/forum/message/3489 /forum/message/3489 RE: Bonfire night - Chris Glover
Thanks for the excellent feedback. The Scout group sounds like it could be a good option (less people and a BBQ).

cheers - Chris
Mon, 03 Nov 2008 12:22:39 -0600 http://ourkt3.com/forum/message/3480 /forum/message/3480 RE: Rose Theatre - Brave New Malden
I've been there for the comedy a good few times and Mrs BNM has seen a few plays. We're all for it - the theatre, I mean. I don't care that the council has put money into it. Why shouldn't they? The problem is, the very notion of art frightens a lot of people - it's only recently they stopped moaning about Kingston's collapsing phone boxes. They always relate it to hospital beds or nurses, for some reason. Like, if there was no public art or things to make our lives more interesting or our environment more pleasing, the money could instead go into the NHS and no one would ever get sick.

If I had one complaint about the Rose it would be that their programme of plays seems a little traditional. I haven't heard of them attempting anything a little alternative or edgy.

I'd love them to do that just for the reaction in the letters page of the local freesheets.
Sun, 02 Nov 2008 12:45:25 -0600 http://ourkt3.com/forum/message/3464 /forum/message/3464 RE: Bonfire night - Lorna Hartnell
22nd Wimbledon Scout group have a fairly good show. The double seats are uncomfortable and its nicer if you know the person booked into the other side of your seat, standing up to let people past can be difficult as well.
Having said that I have seen about four events there and they have all been great and the prices are not bad and its easy to get too. I can also recommend tha cafe, it's a nice relaxed atmosphere and the staff are very friendly, the occasional lunch time jazz is also worth a listen.
Why not give it a try if you haven't already.
Sat, 01 Nov 2008 12:07:13 -0500 http://ourkt3.com/forum/message/3450 /forum/message/3450 RE: Bonfire night - Richard Gerrard
I haven't been to Kingsmeadow but I am told they have it fairly well sorted out these days. Details at the council website www.kingston.gov.uk. I always go the Imber Court Sports Club at East Molesey on 5th November details at www.imbercourtsportsclub.co.uk if your children are very small it might be worth looking to see if one of the local school pta's are running an event as both the two I have mentioned get very busy. There is a big one at Hook arena I think but its terribly difficult getting around the roads there when the car boot sale is on so I am not sure what its like on firework displays.
Sat, 01 Nov 2008 07:17:46 -0500 http://ourkt3.com/forum/message/3436 /forum/message/3436 Bonfire night - Chris Glover
Very exciting time coming up for the little ones and big ones alike.

Can anyone recommend any of the local firework displays? We have two young children so easy access is always a consideration.

thanks,
Chris

Wed, 29 Oct 2008 07:54:58 -0500 http://ourkt3.com/forum/message/3422 /forum/message/3422 Oak Dining Table and Benches - Chris Glover
We are selling a 7ft Oak dining table with two benches. It's a lovely, lovely table. But it's time for a change (so I'm told).

We bought it for £1,000, so we're looking for about £600 for it as it's not two years old yet.

I live in New Malden, I think I have a photo if you're interested.

Chris - 07799 775640
Wed, 29 Oct 2008 07:38:15 -0500 http://ourkt3.com/forum/message/3420 /forum/message/3420 RE: Garden work - Caroline Auty
Thanks Robin. Named after "Shannon Systems" manufacturers of office equipment. It is called Shannon's Corner, or Shannon Corner, but not Shannons Corner.
Tue, 28 Oct 2008 06:12:24 -0500 http://ourkt3.com/forum/message/3414 /forum/message/3414 RE: Garden work - Robin N Gill
Hi Caroline

I can thoroughly recommend Mark Markov (tel 07966 150550 mobile) (020 8942 6430 home).
He has worked on our garden a number of times over the past nine months. He deals with garden care and landscaping. Give him a ring and ask him to have a look at the shed. I know when he does work for us he takes away all the rubbish, prunings, grass etc.
He is very efficient , polite, and knows what he is doing.

Kind Regards
Robin
Mon, 27 Oct 2008 12:43:34 -0500 http://ourkt3.com/forum/message/3408 /forum/message/3408 Garden work - Caroline Auty
Hi

can anyone recommend a local company/person to do some garden work - would probably include getting rid of an old shed (already dismantled), constructing a new shed, possibly levelling off a small area etc?
